Kandria
Another week of miscellany
A rather short update this week, sorry! We're working on various things that are hard to show off or talk about.
Sound
Cai has been working hard on adding all the missing sounds to the game, and most of them are now done and integrated. The bulk that's still missing is UI sounds, and I'm really excited to see those done!
We now also got all the music tracks (including menu music) done. Mikel is gonna go back and make some more adjustments for the coming days, to make sure the tracks fit as best to the game as they can!
Combat Improvements
There's been some more movement and combat improvements, largely thanks to the feedback of fellow Swiss dev Hoot who's working on Helvetii. I had him play the latest Kandria demo, and he had some really good suggestions on how to make the combat more interesting and varied. The play session also gave me some ideas for additional moves and behaviours, which I'm excited to implement.
Gamescom, Devcom
Next week (or, I guess this week now) is Gamescom and Devcom, as well as the Indie Arena Booth. We'll be at those events, insofar as they are happening. The organisation so far has been rather confusing to me, so I don't even really know how these events are going to appear to the outside.
Apparently for the Indie Arena Booth there's a browser game you can play. Kandria is in the "Howling Gardens'" second floor somewhere to the top. I don't know when the game is going to be live or where you can access it, however.
Anyway, we've been primarily focusing on the MeetToMatch platform associated with Gamescom and have scheduled meetings with a few publishers. We'll see how that goes. There's also two pitch sessions happening during the week as well.
Tim
With writing it's usually good to factor in some time away from content, so you can come back to it with fresh eyes and tighten things up - that's what I did with the fish item descriptions this week. I also added values to all items and fish, since you can now sell them to Sahil; this gives us a first-pass basic economy. I playtested the end of the current quest chain, just to make sure the sidequests are behaving as we get close to our demo deadline. I also filtered a list of publishers attending the online MeetToMatch event, to help Nick target those most relevant to us.
