Kandria
Sorry for the delay!
This took a while longer than I expected, but mostly because I got side tracked. More on that later, though. You can get the updated prototype at the same place as ever:
This is version 0.0.1 of the prototype, and from here on, for every version I put out for you to try, I'll increment that number there.
Here's the gist on the changes:
Incorporated a bunch of feedback from people to improve the platforming feel.
Added a public changelog file to the archive where I note all the changes made thanks to feedback from you fine people!
Added basic combat mechanics and a clone of the player character to try those out on. You can now do attacks and attack chains!
I also added a falling platform to the demo level to show that off.
The download also includes a brief readme file that notes the controls, including how to quicksave and quickload, and how to toggle the editor. Be warned though, the editor is currently pretty buggy, I'm afraid!
And now for what I've been up to:
I know, I know, I should be working on the game. And I know, I should not be playing as much Splatoon as I am, you got me there, fair point.
But, please hear me out. I haven't been slacking entirely, just working on other stuff that is still tangential to Kandria.
Right now I'm using MailChimp to send you these email updates and to manage the mailing list. However, I'm not very happy with how MailChimp works, it feels very clumsy. I also don't like that I have to pay for most of the useful features, when I have a perfectly good server lying around that I could use to do everything that MailChimp does, and more.
So over the past few months I've been working on a new web application for mailing list management called Courier. It's almost done now, and I'll probably start public testing of it next week.
What this means for you is nothing yet, but before long I'll move all of you fine people over to the new service. You'll notice this by the fact that the updates will be coming from my email address directly, and the content will have a different look to it. Other than that, if I do my job well, nothing should change for you.
If you're in need of a mailing list service yourself, please have a look at Courier. I'd be very happy if someone other than me got some use out of it!
Alright, that's about enough for this week, though. I'll have to think of another exciting topic to talk about next week. Any ideas?
