Kandria
Another week gone by.
In case you missed it, last week there was a new demo update! I hope you'll get a chance to try it out. If you do, let me know what you thought!
Now, this week was supposed to be my holiday, but due to Covid this got cancelled. As expected, I could not bring myself to just do nothing all week and instead proceeded as if it had been a regular work week.
This week I primarily focused on writing a game design document for Kandria. What I put together is some ten pages long now, though it's still missing a lot of information on the story, so I expect it'll become a lot longer still once that's figured out.
You can go ahead and read the document here though be advised that it has potential spoilers in it. If you don't want to be spoiled on what the game's story and characters are going to be like, don't read it. If you don't mind and do end up reading it, I would be very happy to hear some feedback. Don't worry about being harsh on your feedback either, I think if anything it's important to get things right now rather than later.
I also worked a bit more on my deployment procedures. I can now build and deploy to both Steam and Itch with a single button click, for both Windows and Linux. The only platform I can't fully automate yet is MacOS. I've been meaning to look at Darling for that, but have so far been unable to get it working. Hopefully in the future, though! In any case, the automated deployment means I can roll out new builds for testers on Steam in no time.
According to the game design document, I've also started making some tweaks to the platforming. Specifically, there's now a stamina system for climbing, to restrict the ability to just go up anywhere. Instead I think I'll introduce climbing ropes that'll allow more vertical movement in select areas.
Other than that, I'm going to try to ask some of the local game developers for help to organise a sort of project exchange meetup to try and bring people looking for team members and people looking for teams to join together. The hope here being of course that I could find some others to join the Kandria development, or form some kind of joint development endeavour.
Towards the end of the month I have an exam coming up, so I unfortunately can't dedicate all of my time towards Kandria. However, I think I can make some good progress with planning and marketing this month, so I'll focus primarily on that.
Anyway, I hope you'll give the design doc a read. Some feedback would really help me out!
