Kandria
Who knew developing Kandria would be this hectic?
Nick
Well, this week was about as messy as expected! A jumble of interviews, level design, frantic bugfixing, making tiles, trying to evaluate composers, and tweaking gameplay for the early demo release.
This release is now out for our testing team, but it is still super rough. We haven't had much time for actual gameplay testing yet, so all of that and iterations on the design are going to happen in the coming two weeks, as well as squishing as many bugs as we can. Hopefully by then we'll have a new demo that's stable and polished enough for all of you to try out!
Meanwhile the composer application process has reached the third round. I've somehow managed to get the list down to three candidates, which are now each going to do some paid work on composing a one minute track for Kandria. The deadline for that track is 18th of April, so about three weeks from now. The three have agreed to be announced publicly, along with their tracks, so I hope you look forward to hearing the demos Jacob Lincke, João Luís, and Mikel Dale put together! I'm very excited to see what they come up with. Also go check them out, they each have done some fantastic work and are very charming people!
Despite my best efforts to keep away from stress and especially crunch with this project, I'm definitely feeling the tension from the looming deadline. I don't imagine I'll be able to properly calm down from this until the demo is properly out. Still, so far I'm managing, so don't worry too much about me!
I don't have too much to show off right now, most of what I've done this week has been admin or detail work, but I hope to have some more impressive videos or screenshots to show off next week.

We've reached the soft deadline for the vertical slice, and I'm pretty happy with where the quests are at. All the triggers are now scattered throughout the level, and I've been tweaking and testing things in these new locations. Nick has reviewed the quests and given me positive feedback, along with some useful steers on tweaking the dialogue - I'll continue to do this over the next couple of weeks before we push a public build, while also adapting to any changes in the levels from here on in. Polish, playtest, and repeat!

Been working on more tiles for the west market. I think what we have now should suffice, we can already make some nice looking environments!
Still need to go back and make some tweaks and adjustments though, especially regarding the normals to make the lighting work well.
Oh boy
Well, suffice to say there's a lot going on behind the scenes. I hope you can still bear with us for two weeks longer! In the meantime you could check out our Discord server, and chat with us or the composers about what's going on!
